WILDLIFE TOURS > Kinabatangan River Safari -

If you have come to Borneo to see the amazing wildlife than the lower Kinabatangan River is an essential place for you to visit. The entire river is teeming with many rare and endangered animals, birds and reptiles. It can almost be guaranteed that you will see families of Proboscis monkeys, Macaque monkeys and hornbills. If you are lucky, you can also see Orang Utan, crocodiles, elephants, and a spectacular assembly of birdlife.

You will have the opportunity to join a river cruise which is the perfect way to spot animals. You will spend the night at a small, clean and eco-friendly resort nestled within the forest on the banks of the river.

Itinerary

(Timings to be used as guidelines only)

Day 1 (Lunch and Dinner)

You will travel by bus to Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre situated in the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve where you will witness their morning feeding and watch a video about the rehabilitation of the orang-utans. You will then continue by bus for two hours to the lodge in the Kinabatangan Wildlife Reserve. When you arrive at the river, you will take a short boat transfer to the Lodge. At 4pm, you will embark on the evening river safari through mangrove and rainforest habitats where you can watch the primates settle down for the night in the treetops.

Day 2 (Breakfast and Lunch)

You will depart in the morning visiting Gomantong Cave’s on your journey back to Sandakan. Gomantong caves are famous for the collection of edible birds' nests for bird’s nest soup. You will then continue back to Sandakan in time for lunch. In the afternoon, there will be the opportunity to visit the water village, central market and Buddhist temple.
